Central York Aquatics (CYA) is a competitive swim club based in York, Pennsylvania. We are dedicated to providing high-quality swimming programs, developing aquatic skills, and fostering a positive environment for athletes of all ages. Operating out of 601 Mundis Mill Rd, our team serves the York community with professional coaching and training opportunities designed to build champions in and out of the pool.
Role Overview
We are seeking an Assistant Head Swim Coach to join our coaching staff. This role is ideal for someone passionate about swimming and eager to inspire the next generation of athletes. You will work closely with the Head Coach to plan, organize, and lead practices and meets, while promoting teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship.
Key Responsibilities
Assist in running practice sessions that focus on technique, endurance, and skill development.
Support swimmer development with feedback and individualized training plans.
Coach at swim meets, focusing on race strategy, starts, turns, and finishes.
Foster a positive team culture that encourages growth and motivation.
Ensure safety protocols are followed at all times.
Communicate with swimmers, parents, and coaching staff to support team goals.
Assist with administrative duties, including attendance, progress tracking, and reporting.
Lead or support dryland training to complement in-water workouts.
Qualifications
Previous competitive swimming experience preferred.
Coaching background preferred, but enthusiastic learners are welcome.
Certifications: USA Swimming Coaching Certification (or willingness to obtain), plus CPR, First Aid, and Lifeguarding.
Strong communication and motivational skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with coaching staff and parents.
Flexible and adaptable to meet team needs.
Working Hours
Practices: Mornings, afternoons, and weekends.
Meets: Evenings and weekends.
Compensation
Compensation is commensurate with experience.
Job Types: Part-time, Contract
Pay: $17.27 - $24.41 per hour
Expected hours: 10 – 30 per week

Requirements
Job Requirements – Assistant Head Coach
Education & Certifications
- Bachelor’s degree preferred (Education, Sports Science, or related field ideal).
- Current CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications.
- USA Swimming Coach certification (or ability to obtain within 30 days).
- Lifeguard certification preferred.
Coaching & Experience
Minimum 2–3 years coaching experience at the age-group, high school, or collegiate level.
Demonstrated ability to assist with planning and executing daily practices.
Experience coaching at meets, including race strategies, starts, turns, and finishes.
Proven record of athlete development, sportsmanship, and team culture building.
Leadership & Teamwork
Ability to support and collaborate with the Head Coach in implementing the program vision.
Strong leadership skills, including mentoring assistant or junior coaches.
Ability to serve as acting Head Coach when the Head Coach is unavailable.
Excellent communication with athletes, parents, and staff.
Skills & Competencies
Strong technical knowledge of all swimming strokes, training methods, and dryland conditioning.
Organizational skills for practice schedules, meet entries, and team events.
Ability to motivate athletes to achieve personal and team goals.
Positive role model who demonstrates professionalism, integrity, and enthusiasm.
Additional Requirements
Availability for evening/weekend practices and swim meets.
Commitment to supporting team values of sportsmanship, teamwork, and discipline.
Willingness to contribute to team administration, parent communication, and fundraising efforts.
