As part of the Energy, Resilience and Sustainability (ERS) Division, you will collaborate with experts to provide comprehensive policy, planning, and implementation services to deliver solutions that address critical infrastructure resilience and security, and data management issues and support the military mission, while reducing environmental impacts.
The ERS Division is seeking a highly motivated and qualified candidate to support our defense clients under a technology transition effort focused on analyzing and implementing advanced energy solutions at Department of the Air Force (DAF) installations and beyond. A successful candidate will have a nuclear engineering background and interest in advanced nuclear technology such as Small Modular Reactors (SMRs), skill in identifying and communicating key steps in complicated processes and enjoy working in a small team environment.
The Nuclear Engineer will work collaboratively with our senior DAF clients to identify and develop frameworks and initiatives that can translate strategic goals for adoption of advanced nuclear energy and other advanced energy technologies into actionable solutions. Some travel may be required with this position. Candidate must be able to obtain a Secret clearance. This is a remote position.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide technical review and input on projects and efforts related to ongoing and future energy pilots, technology demonstrations, and innovative first-of-kind processes.
- Conduct research on and analysis of developing technological advancements in nuclear energy as well as other advanced energy technologies such as geothermal, hydrogen, and other technologies of interest as identified by the Department of the Air Force.
- Apply engineering analysis to Air Force- and industry-driven requirements for energy resilience to determine best-fit technologies for various locations and energy use scenarios.
- Assist in development of frameworks and processes for achieving wider adoption of advanced energy technologies.
- Support ongoing energy/water resilience efforts, with the objective of translating pilots, demonstrations, and processes into implementable technologies.
- Work collaboratively with team members to prepare clients for technical presentations and community outreach events. Prepare presentation materials such as slides and talking points pertaining to complex topics such that they can be understood by the layperson.
- Minimal travel (2-3x/year) will be required.
Requirements
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in nuclear engineering or related engineering discipline with at least 5 years of relevant experience.
- Familiarity with Federal energy policies and regulations.
- Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite and PowerBI, as well as basic familiarity with AI tools and prompting skills.
- Self-motivated and quick learner.
- Ability to interpret technical materials to inform senior government officials and relevant stakeholders.
- Excellent analytical, writing, and communication skills, with experience preparing reports, policy briefs, and recommendations for decision-makers.
- Detail-oriented, organized, and able to work independently or collaboratively in a team.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense (DoD) Common Access Card (CAC).
- Ability to obtain and maintain as US Government Secret security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Active Secret clearance.
- Advanced degree in public policy, engineering, political science, security studies, or related field
- Experience with Federal energy and/or sustainability programs
- Process-oriented skills and experience such as development of standard operating procedures, instruction manuals, guidance documents, etc.
