The State of Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is accepting applications for a Transportation Bridge Safety Inspector 3 position in the Bridge Safety and Evaluation section of the Division of Bridges in the Office of Engineering. This position may be located in New Haven, Norwich, Newington, Thomaston or Wethersfield. The work location for this position may be determined based on the preference of the selected candidate in conjunction with the operational needs of the CTDOT.
THIS HANDS-ON POSITION REQUIRES
Outdoor work with all types of terrain and weather conditions
Work in water, in bucket trucks, on ladders, and in under bridge inspection equipment, at heights up to 75 feet or more
Work in confined spaces such as culverts
Climbing, crawling, bending, and lifting
Walking on slopes and uneven terrain
Exposure to traffic and environmental hazards
Exposure to allergens, insects, vegetation, and wildlife
Experience marking up documents using Adobe or similar software
Highly accurate written and verbal communication skills

POSITION HIGHLIGHTS
First Shift
Full Time, 40 hours per week
Monday through Friday
Hybrid (in-office/field/telework) and alternate work schedules may be available
THE ROLE
We are seeking candidates who are interested in performing bridge inspections in accordance with established standards and leading a bridge safety inspection team.
Bridge safety inspection teams are responsible for the technical inspection of bridges and other structures in accordance with specifications for the National Bridge Inventory and other manuals, policies, and procedures. In addition to field inspection work, this position is responsible for preparing neat and accurate engineering-related documents such as drawings and inspection reports using Bluebeam and Excel.
APPLICATION DETAILS
In this important role, you must be available to travel both within and outside of normal working hours, for bridge emergencies, inspections, site visits, training, meetings, etc. A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required and must be maintained.
